Located on a narrow island served primarily by Hoopers Island Road, Fishing Creek as of 2009 has a restaurant (Old Salty's), a post office, a hardware store with intermittent hours, and a general store (King's Island Pride), as well as crabbing businesses. Local legend posits a number of ghosts in the Fishing Creek area. The village is on the upper island of the three island chain known as Hoopers Island, about fifteen miles from the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge.
The U.S. Coast Guard's Station Annapolis, part of the Coast Guard's Sector Baltimore, was originally located at the lighthouse Thomas Point Light at Fishing Creek, in the lighthouse-keeper's barge. It later moved to a nearby smallboat station. In 1972, a new station was built on the site where the barge was moored.
Fishing Creek resident Louie "Rufus" Frase, 43 at the time, was a contestant on the summer 2007 CBS reality television series Pirate Master.
